.Net or Ruby on Rails?

Ervin Laeger: Go learn Bash on Balls.

Sharolyn Claybourn: I would suggest RoR, there are more positions than there are talent. The same could be said about .NET, but not to same extent. Their are several advantages Rails has over .NET, IMO. It is open-source, because it is free it has a larger community of people working on it and constantly improving and building on it. There will be a learning curve, but the foundation design pattern is MVC. This pattern can be used in both frameworks, but easier to grasp in Rails because of the Convention over Configuration philosophy. Most importantly, I have found members of the Rails community are very helpful and willing to answer questions and give advice. .NET folks are good people, but because of the enterprise nature of their work, some can be closed and not open to share info. Those are just my two cents, hope it help....Show more

Antwan Schrum: I'd recommend ROR.

Jerald Florence: .NET is a framework! for creating applications of all kinds. You can create web application with ASP.NET, desktop applications with WPF, phone applications with Silverlight, game applications with XNA.Ruby on Rails is a framework for creating web applications. There are far more jobs for .NET developers than there are for Ruby developers. The .NET jobs are also likely to be somewhat better paid than the Ruby jobs. .NET is the mainstream and is assured to be around and current for many years, Ruby is a backwater that could dry up in a few years time.If you want to make more money, more securely over a longer period of time, I'd go for .NET....Show more
