answers1:TWILIGHT!Sorry HP fans
answers2:No, I barely made it through Twilight and the mere thought of
reading the next two made me sick. Don't think Twilight is horrible,
but it certainly wasn't worth a re-read in my opinion.
answers3:Bad way of structuring this.Main point: Did you feel the same
distaste after reading them again?
answers4:To avoid stereotype looks and some racial things the
foreigners may complain aboutplus you know how white kids look,
white,black hair, succesful
answers5:Harry Potter. It's just, more imaginable for me.I don't like
Romance that much thats pretty much why I guess.
answers6:Twilight is better
answers7:Because whites are the majority. It's like how in Japanese
mangas, it's implied that everyone's Japanese. That's because Japanese
people form the majority. Same with the US and white people or the UK
and white people.Sure it may be wrong because there are some very
significant minorities, but that's just how it is....Show more
answers8:Percy Jackson books are set in the USA and Harry Potter books
in Great Britain - in both those places the majority of people are
white, the vast majority in many areas. Mentioning other races stops
people assuming that all the characters are white. Race apparently
doesn't not matter enough not to mention it. It's the stage we're at,
I guess.
answers9:Sorry, but I liked Midnight Sun.No offense but just wondering
if this is what you mean by this. You don't like Twilight and Midnight
Sun because the way she writes reminds you of the way that you write.
And you don't like the way you write?I liked Edward's point of view,
and that's how I kind of pictured him. She always made hints through
out the series, that Edward over think ed everything little detail and
stuff. So um, i don't know what really to say to you.But I guess every
one is able to have your opinion and thats cool that you think that
about Twilight....Show more
answers10:I've noticed this too. I thought it was racist and lame as
well, but now I think I understand why.Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics
are minorities in the U.S. (Percy Jackson's setting) and Britain
(Harry Potter's setting). If you read say Battle Royale or Eon, the
characters are not described as being Asian because both books are set
in Asia. (I've never read Battle Royale, but I believe this is
true.)(Eon is actually set in a fictional, mythology-based Asia.) In
the book Copper Sun, which begins in Africa, black characters are
implied, while white ones are described as being white....Show more
answers11:Because if you're reading fiction written by European or
American writers, the vast majority of people in those places are
white, and it's therefore the default setting, if you see what I mean.
If you read fiction from countries where black or Asian people are in
the majority, they won't say outright that characters are black or
Asian, but they will state it if a character is white. Both the UK
(Harry Potter) and the US (Percy Jackson) are racially diverse, but
white people are still very much in the majority. I'm not saying this
is right or wrong - but that's the reason....Show more
answers12:Good question. I think because white people are described
say when it says (she had green eyes and red hair) you automatically
know she's most likely to be white in areas in the world where the
majority is white (Harry Potter-UK). However by saying that a
character is black it helps build the picture of the character more
solid in your mind on how the author wanted you to picture the
specific character instead of just describing their eye colour, hair
colour etc that could easily just build a picture of a white person in
your mind....Show more

Twilight-brilliant to Breaking Dawn-horrible.But the Harry Potter
books where just amazing from the 1st book to the last book.So Harry
Potter books.
answers15:I like both of them. But personally, I like Twilight better.
answers16:tell them to fvck off
answers17:I hope I'll never feel the urge to read "Twilight" again. I
stopped after the first book, and I simply cannot muster enough
self-hatred to read the other three...CheersS
answers18:And fall in love with the first like I did all those years
ago. It's unbearable, I can't get through them without a feeling of
nausea. Her writing's not terrible, but it reminds me of my own
writing skill. And I absolutely detest my writing. Midnight Sun - some
of the scenery descriptions are sadly how I'd play then out. It's just
not Edward. Maybe it's getting so cliche, I hate it so because of
that? It's how I think. She builds a great scenery, a point near
climax, then she scatters it and shoots it, prolonging and incessively
being repetitive. Mentally, I do that. But in a book it's so
unstructured. She killed her own characters.I can understand why it's
addictive for some people, but I fell out of love with it because I
know the writing style so well. Give the fangirls time, they'll know
better.Maybe the nausea is being stimulated by the fact that my
grandmother has a raw turkey in the next room?Vegetarian pride....Show

answers19:White characters don't need to be described too much. If one
mentions a person, the one who hears it automatically imagine a white
person (at least the majority) unless it is described. The only thing
you need to describe a white is to say his/her characteristics that
distinguishes her/him from others, whereas people from a very
different race than the whites needs to be described very carefully,
in order for the reader to imagine at least almost accurately what the
writer imagines the character to look like. Hope that helps. The
difference you cited is not due to racial prejudice. It's just a
necessary part of a good story, that's all....Show more
answers20:Actually they may have a point. If you're in medical school
you have a tremendous amount of material to learn in a short time. You
really need to concentrate on that.Of course you need a certain amount
of free time too.Tell them that you can't study all of the time and
reading is how you choose to relax. Surely it's better than many other
activities. But maybe you should consider how much time you spend on
that....Show more
answers21:TWILIGHT ALL THE WAY!!!
answers22:I actually really liked the Twilight series. Once I picked
up the first book, it took me 8 days to finish the last (I had a busy
week besides reading..). I thought it was a pretty nice love story.
That was the main thing I liked about it - a love so powerful that
they want to be with each other forever. The fact that they overcame
obstacles like Bella not being a vampire didn't really interest me;
it's not like it's that uncommon in romance novels anyway. There were
a whole bunch of things I didn't like about the books, though, such as
Edward being an overprotective psycho freak (though I give him props
for becoming normal in Eclipse) and Bella being portrayed as such a
weakling. Also, I couldn't really relate to Bella. I still like the
series very much, though.I'm going to re-read the books again in two
weeks, after my final exams, because I feel like I read the books so
quickly that they was hard to digest. Now, Midnight Sun...Oh my gosh,
it was terrible. Seeing out of Edward's mind was enlightening, but
also extremely annoying. He kept thinking about how beautiful and
wonderful Bella looked, how he wanted to touch her, and that was the
turning point for me. Is that the only reason he liked her? It sure
seemed like it. It was like his desire for her blood was a metaphor
for his desire to have sex with Bella. What infuriated me even more is
when he referred to Bella as a (literally) "kitten who wants to be a
tiger," as if she can't protect herself. That was just so
condescending I had to grit my teeth in anger. Then again, that goes
with Bella being horribly weak, clumsy, and way too dependent on
Edward. I was ready to go Team Jacob, even though I was Team Edward
all the way before. So, I don't know how I'll feel about the books,
but I think I'll still like them. Even if there's a lot at fault with
the series, it doesn't mean that none of the concepts/ideas are
ridiculous or disgusting. :)...Show more
answers23:Though I have yet to read Twilight, nothing will ever top
Harry Potter for me!
answers24:I like both but prefer Harry Potter. There's more depth to
them. I dunno, I've read the Twilight books 3 times (breaking dawn
only twice) and my feelings for them have sort of dimmed
answers25:I enjoyed Harry Potter more. I grew up with it so it's a
part of my childhood while Twilight isn't.I half agree with you, I
don't think Twilight books are that good but mainly because it's
supposed to be like a regular high school book only with vampires, but
it's not realistic at all, when it seems like it should be.
answers26:i heard the draft got leaked and its not going to be published.
answers27:Medical and nursing students undergo tremendous strains to
master their courses and their clinical experience. They have to cut
back on almost everything they like to do and find ways to live in the
little free time they make. (I experienced it. So did my niece. She
made it through but several times she said it was too much - and she
was an honours grad.) I know you can't live on study alone. It drives
people bats. Still it must take up a greater proportion of your time.
You must make adjustments, even in your casual reading, if you want
that MD more than anything else.Does your med. school have a mentoring

answers33:While I'm all in favor of people being well-rounded, I
shudder to think I could one day be receiving medical care from a
person whose grades were not very good because they made time to read

answers36:Harry P. and Twilight are the best.
answers37:The default character in most American and European stories
is white, male, and heterosexual. That is, if a character is only
described by a name that could be male or female, the character is
assumed to be male, for the most part. Some authors have gotten
considerable mileage out of this, by carefully not referring to a
character's gender, and part of the Big Reveal at the ending is that
the character is actually female.By the way, try reading Ursula K.
LeGuin's Wizard of Earthsea trilogy. I'm aware that there are more
books in that series, but read the trilogy. While the main character
in the first and third books is male...don't make any assumptions as
to his skin color. This is a constant theme in women's studies, by the
way...that the default person is male, and that if a character is
female, that has to be made clear. And, by the way, the default race or
nationality of MOST stories is the author's own....Show more
answers38:I enjoyed both of them. But I didn't even know what
obssession was until I read Twilight. But I guess it all depends on
how you look at it.
