Sharri Scalley: Taxpayers cannot afford it. They are already loaded down with too many look, sound, and feel good programs. It is a good idea but the practicality eludes idealists who pretend everything "worthwhile" also must be afforded. It is worse for taxpayers now that huge hordes of grossly overpopulating excess labor, mostly in Asia this time, undercut wages and drew away their jobs and whole industries. Immigrant hordes of my Irish and Germanic relatives did it here all through the 19th century and into the 20th.Yes, I know in your mind it takes precedence over wars to secure resources that help, not drain the economy; but like so many things "free" to the users they are too often wasted by those because they have nothing invested in them.Free public education, when affordable to the public, should be for only what truly and economically benefits the entire public. Frivolous or merely "politically correct" studies should be at the expense of the student or priv! ate sponsors.Socialized programs generally must produce more wealth than they consume. The society in general , under any economic system, must produce more real wealth (products and commodities) than it consumes or it drains itself economically. That's what happened to all the Marxist societies and is happening to most heavily socialist societies today. The people and their governments drained them sucking up more real wealth than they produced for the society. No, it's not the "greedy capitalists." They generally help produce real wealth (real capital) and reinvest it into the society. Neo-Marxist bigoted idealists pretend government does that but in actual practice government wastes too much of it aggrandizing themselves at least, or steal too much for their families and friends at worst, leaving the society depleted (yes, capitalists do that too but there are far fewer of those, per capital produced, draining it).The societies then suck up what's left for their famili! es while producing so little as they must. We are on our way ! to that as ever more socialized programs like you want drain ever more not compensated by increased production of real wealth (products and commodities).PS: The above example of Germany is not comparable. Their traditionally communal society (according to Karl Marx) still produces high quality products the world always wants. China and most Asian nations cannot compete with those. Germans still produce more real wealth than they consume. We don't anymore. Our vast commodity production, mostly food, is what holds us up economically limping along at a dying pace hidden by currency inflation and borrowing....Show more
Virgil Loatman: GREED
Darcie Peraha: Because the Democrats spent all the money on entitlement programs to buy votes from poor people and minorities.Republicans tried to get universal health care in the 1960's, when we had the prosperity to pay for it.But Democrats had a filibuster proof majority and the president was a Democrat. So the Democrats! voted down universal health care, which would have benefited everybody, and used the money for a narrow entitlement system that benefits only the people who vote Democrat....Show more
Octavio Roylance: because we are a bunch of backwardass hillbillies
Letitia Bigelow: Larger more diverse population. Not possible, all those little euro nations have small dense similar populations.
Hobert Dula: Because free is pretty expensive and we have to be the worlds cop - which is also pretty expensive. Choices had to be made.
Elmo Tervo: And because of those facts, the divide between life expectancy and the divide between the rich and poor has grown every single year. We truly will be a 3rd world country in another 50 years when nobody can afford healthcare and college.
Catheryn Small: Because America is using that money to start all these unnecessary wars.
Natalya Sydney: the standard of college education suks nuts and most degrees arent wort! h the paper theyre printed on.i would consider assisting those taking d! egrees in real sciences, engineering and technology etc.most other subjects are soft and billyshyt and those who are stupid n lazy enough to take them can do it on their own dime.healthcare has never been free....Show more
Tijuana Tatsak: We like to earn what we get.
Sammy Hatzenbihler: they don't. you're so full of **** u don't even know it. they are not entitled to any of that stuff and that's why people can't tell how many illegals there really are because they are hiding in fear of deportation. they also put up with **** from people like u all the time stereotyping them as drug dealers and moochers, criminals etc. Think about it, they don't even have the right to free spech cuz if they protest for unfair treatment or pretty much anything they'll be deported in a flash.
Ilana Gaster: IT"S NOT FREE. It's paid for by taxpayers.
Shon Almquist: Because we have a lot of selfish people who think keeping their money is more important than providing basi! c needs for everyone, especially people who are making money hand over fist from the system that is the most expensive in the world. College is the same thing. All those for profit colleges would yell bloody murder if they stopped making money by overcharging students and the government.
Dick Baumgarten: You're right the reason gas is over $8 in Europe is because they pay asthey go. The gas is the same price as ours but say they want a new autobahn in Germany they add half a buck to the cost ofgas. This is the way they pay for free health care, etc. In the states we use an average of 135 billion gallons a year so think add half a buck to the cost and make the government crack down on the estimated $80 billion in fraud that the doctors and hospitals do and it's paid for. I know everyone will get mad about the price increase but since Morgan Stanley and Goldman are still manipulating the price the laws of supply and demand will bring it back down. You are also correct! about the middle East countries when gaddaffi was alive the people had! free health care, education, also for the women, gas and subsidized housing, I would have thought he and Obama discussed this when he visited as Obama did give him a token gift of $400,000 for his north African charities. Not sure if the Al Queda allows that now though.Look up about morgan and how now and in the past they manipulate the price of oil and Congress does nothing. As far as the health bill hospitals increased lobby donations by 62% to half a billion and combined the drug and insurance lobbies gave half a billion and that is why it passed unread. now with the business part being delayed and the CBO saying 24% or more is to be paid for by penalties and taxes on premium policies*, wonder where they will get the cash to pay for it, see below the graph for these revised numbers. we should do as Europe and pay as we go. No credit they are putting $85 billion n the system every month right now to prop it up. Take care.*http://www.cbo.gov/publication/44176*...Sh! ow more
Dallas Bartolini: Do you understand the word socialism? We do not like it.
Kristina Brockwell: Yes even the dreaded CUBA has free health care and free education.
Shaunta Paap: Those are two of America's biggest problems and they both reflect the complications w/ unlimited capitalism.Greed and collusion trump unlimited capitalism. Many Americans are unknowingly victimized by what they support because they are not privy to the implementations that precede their victimization.
Aron Ramu: a little thing called "the Constitution"
Tommy Durrenberger: Why doesn't ANYONE have "free" HC? Maybe you could direct me to der fatherland.
Boris Hadsall: The existing powers that are want the Oil & Gas Industry to have the subsidies and not students or health care.
Tosha Tawney: mostly because we have a criminal govt who only stuffs their own pockets and could care less about ours.
Peggy Sandefer: My local Community college charges abou! t $1000 per year (practically free and fully subsidized) and health car! e is free for the poor and working poor (Medicaid). The rest of us pay for theirs and are own. Maybe that's why we have a much stronger economy and quality of life.
Carli Watterson: >so why not make healthcare and university education free?Because neither are free.
Betsey Muehlbach: It's not free you pay through the nose for it that is why you earn so little and pay such high prices on everything. You guys gave up your freedom to Government generations ago and you don't even know it. Your practically serfs. One day your gov health care will kill you as it is not cost effective to keep you around anymore. Your gov. Education teaches exactly what the government wants you to know....Show more
Brittney Inabnit: Because regressive Christians think not being wealthy is a judgement from God or that the person who needs help is simply lazy. The Republican mind set is I have mine so you get yours like I did, by working for it.They fail to see that not every person h! as the talent, ability or desire to be like them. All humans have value and healthcare, education and food should be basic rights. The wealthy see everyone else as an exploitable resource and as disposable.
