If during a remodel a hallwall corner that was not to code remains not to code is that ok?

Dexter Dicostanzo: That depends. Are you pulling permits & will the work be inspected? Then it is up to the inspector to pass it or not. Often you must bring new work up to code if more than a certain % of the area is remodeled, but again it depends on just what work you are doing. Obviously if you were doing the kitchen, you would not have to bring bathrooms up to code, etc.. (BTW/that is one narrow hallway !!) Launa Weingarten: You should have no problem because it was existing. During a remodel most inspectors are concerned with structural integrity, and mechanicals (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) are done correctly. If you were to bring it to their attention, they would indicate it was fine. If you are not obtaining a permit, the point is moot. If you are, I would bring it up in discussion prior to starting when you pick up your permit. My opinion, no problem.
